How to add the chat client to trusted in McAfee

If you are running McAfee on your computer, in most cases in its default setup it would allow the operator console to connect. If you are getting the system message "Cannot connect to the ProvideSupport Chat Server", check out the steps below to allow the chat client through McAfee firewall.

If you are able to connect but facing any performance glitches, such as short disconnects in chat, or delays in messages posting, the below instructions are also applicable:

  1. Close the operator console and any other programs that may be running
  2. Double-click the Security Center icon in the system tray
  3. Click Personal Firewall on the left-hand side
  4. Click View the Internet Applications List
  5. Click New Allowed Application
  6. Locate the file ProvideSupportConsole.exe (C:\Program Files\Provide Support\Live Support Chat for Web Site by default) and click Open
  7. Close the McAfee Personal Firewall
  8. Close McAfee Security Center
  9. Restart your computer
